imblaaaaaaack: ([PGRP] attention whore)
Short Summary:
"Nori leads some sad X-Men. They kill people sometimes. They also smoke a lot of pot and have sex and then cry about it later."

(Mostly joking, but actually not)

When given the decision to side with Wolverine or Cyclops in the split of the X-Men, Noriko decides that she's had enough of her squad being used as pawns between them and sets up her own faction. First order of business: go and recruit some old allies and get the Academy X gang back together.

Josh goes with Nori without a question. She's never led him astray before and he feels more at home with these friends. They've always had his back and he theirs. Nori, over the years since leaving the X-Men, helped get Josh back some stability--though he can still slide back into that dark, twisty mindset every once and awhile.

Especially when the team's goals became more serious and darker. More about proactive survival. Josh is the team's go-to healer and had to overcome the fears associated with his death touch and disease manipulation. It messes with his head every time he has to use them, but he's getting better and better at dealing with the repercussions thanks to his team's support.

Now in his early 20's, Josh does still have the tendency to fall back into bad habits. Like serial dating and sleeping around. However, to his credit, Josh is much more open about this now and likes to identify as polyamorous and pansexual. His relationships with his friends, while loyal and long-lasting, tend to go through a lot of ups and downs thanks to his moods and impulsive nature.

Tweaks to Josh's canon background:
- Cyclops' X-Force never happened.
- Necrosha never happened.
- After obtaining medical knowledge from Hank McCoy, Josh went a little unstable in the head for awhile trying to adjust to all of the new sensations and intellect. It was a lot for him to take in and it set off several long months of experimenting and self reflection.
- While Josh is interested in zen Buddhism, but doesn't consider himself a practicing Buddhist. He did get into the meditation, the yoga, and dabbled into some of the (western) tantra.
- Has reconciled with Dani over the years and they have a good relationship now; he sometimes even calls her mom.

Marvel Wikia entry here.
PB: Mitch Hewer. Though I'll say right away that I won't be photoshopping any icons to do the gold skin because I just don't have the skills to do that. It will be assumed!

Age/Birthdate: 15; born November 18, 1996
Family: Mother (Grace), father (Howard), and two older brothers (Michael, 17, and Tyler, 19).

History: A lot of Josh's AU history will parallel his canon history since he is a teen student coming to Xavier's for the first time there! I will have a few tweaks here and there, however, for AU's sake and to make this fit a little bit better with the new world build (pending mod approval, of course).

Joshua Foley is a young boy that comes from a working class family in Queens, New York. His family was always very straight and narrow, 'normal', and close knit. His father is a salesman for an investment company and his mother is a practical nurse. Because both parents work full-time, the sons were often left to their own devices when they weren't in school. In Josh's case, that often meant that he was forgetting about his homework and spending close to all of his time with his friends. That also meant that he had a lot of time to get into trouble. Josh didn't have any major brushes with the law, but he did tend to fall in with the wrong crowds, including bullies and boys who got into unnecessary fights.

It was during one of those group fights that Josh's powers first manifested. Being on the receiving end of two pairs of fists and kicking legs meant that there should have been cuts, bruises, and body aches. However, Josh was back to full health by the time he returned home that evening as his wounds all healed up before his very eyes. It'd frightened him, but he decided to keep that information to himself for the next couple of weeks. As time wore on, though, Josh ended up seeing this quick regeneration happen again and again including one day at the school cafeteria. While horsing around with his friends, some hot soup was spilled and scalded his hand. Again, it miraculously healed up within seconds only this time it was seen by others. What followed was relentless teasing and bullying, as Josh's classmates began referring to him as a freak and other such names.

Miserable and feeling rather alienated and lonely among his peers, Josh began acting out more. He was suspended from school twice for fighting, his attendance began to slip, and his grades dropped. Things were getting progressively worse and then one day he was confronted by a group of male students. Like usual, their altercation began with name calling and garbage throwing, but Josh'd had enough and lost his temper. The confrontation grew physical and Josh was beaten down quickly by the group, his injuries much more extensive this time. Thankfully the fight was broken up by teachers, but Josh was shocked to learn that his healing powers worked so hard this time that his skin had changed to a shiny golden colour. Frightened and still feeling threatened, he ran home to hide and attempt to 'change' back.

[Pending mod approval:]

Things only got worse from there as his straight and narrow parents were mortified to see their son's new look. Needless to say, the visit from Xavier was welcomed and they were more than happy to see Josh off to his new school. Josh didn't take these new plans very well at all, and voiced his displeasure at having to go. However, his complaints were quickly quieted when his parents informed him that he was no longer welcome in their home.

Shocked and distraught, Josh had silently sulked to himself the whole ride up to Westchester.

Personality: On the surface, Josh has the tendency to be a bit of a personality chameleon; he acts and behaves in ways that are affected by his surroundings and the people he's hanging out with. However, he is consistently outspoken, caring, daring, and slightly prone to mood swings--especially where his quick temper is concerned. He's a troubled kid; he's bitter, angry, and has a hard time figuring out where he fits in. After Josh is disowned by his parents, he develops some rejection issues and this makes him act out at times as well as suffer from moderate depression.

Where it concerns social interactions, Josh isn't afraid to say what's on his mind even if it can hurt someone else's feelings. While he's quick to tell people off or give criticism, he surprisingly doesn't take it back all that well; his skin's not especially thick. However, he tries very hard to fit in with groups, going as far to change his style and appearance to do so (yeah, he's kind of a 'poseur'). While Josh isn't particularly awkward with people per se, he does have the tendency to push people's buttons (intentionally and unintentionally) and it gets him into trouble. He has a very assertive personality type that leans on the aggressive side. When it comes to people that Josh is really fond of, it should be noted that he can be very charming, openly flirty, loyal (he'll always have a friends back during a conflict), and fun.

A dominating trait of his is his competitive streak. Josh wants to be the best, look the best, and perform the best. This can be very true of his social life and his skills and interests, but not so much his academics. There is definitely some show-off tendencies of his, and he gets a kick out of being a 'sore winner' (and, in turn, is also a very sore loser). Needless to say, Josh has a bit of an ego issue, likely, in part, of his desire for acceptance.

The desire to spend time alone isn't really there all that much. Since the manifestation of his powers, however, Josh finds this to be even scarier. His powers effect his own body even more than when he is placing his hands on others and using them. His powers have a mind of their own--they're strong, intense, and always working. When he concentrates, Josh can feel his cells replicating and going through their life cycles, even. It tends to do a bit of a number on his head (mentally), so very recently has began teaching himself yoga and meditation techniques in order to deal with it.

Outlook: As of now, Josh's whole outlook on the mutant school thing is a mixture of curious, bitter, annoyed, and slightly willing to adapt. He's upset with his parents and his former friends, but he's also wanting to learn about what's going on with his body. He wants to get better at it and try doing something neat with it. Thanks to his slightly ignorant upbringing, Josh is rudely referring to his classmates as fellow freakshows, and figures that if they're all messed up like him then why not see what their deal is? Maybe make some friends. If they'll accept him, that is.

- Omega level biokinesis. Josh has the ability to control the biological structure of the human body at a cellular level, including regeneration and cellular decay.
- Shiny, golden coloured skin.

- He is very young and new to his powers, so Josh doesn't have very much control over them. While he can push himself to do an intentional heal on someone, his powers do tend to work on their own accord a lot of the time and he doesn't understand how or why it happens that way!
- Right now, Josh can only use his powers on people if they are in direct skin-to-skin contact.
- Another big limitation of his is that he needs more bio-molecular knowledge to apply to his power use. If he were to obtain that in his schooling, his control and variation would be much greater.
- Finally, overexertion. If Josh pushes himself too hard, he will wind up in a self-induced coma.

Talents: Josh is very athletic. He's highly skilled in competitive sports like baseball, basketball, and soccer, as well as individual activities like skateboarding, yoga, and swimming.
Interests: In addition to sports, Josh also enjoys pop-punk music and popular rock bands, video games, socializing, frisbee, and biking.

On the surface, Josh has the tendency to be a bit of a personality chameleon; he acts and behaves in ways that are affected by his surroundings/timeline. Deep down, though, he is polite, kind, caring, and a bit insecure with a great deal of mood swings.

When Josh first appeared in the second volume of New Mutants, we see him as a troubled kid; he's bitter, angry, and fully prepared to join a mutant hate group within the Hellfire Club (the Reavers). Josh really doesn't come across as the arrogant golden boy that he is portrayed as during his first few months at Academy X. Even his style was more of the metalhead variety, as he was often seen with piercings and band shirts on. Really, he was your run of the mill rebel teenager until he meets Laurie Collins and heals her after the Reavers have her hurt.

Later after Josh is disowned by his parents and joins the Academy, he finds that he has a hard time fitting in and develops some rejection issues. A lot of the kids there still saw him as a troublemaker and a traitor for dealing with the Reavers, and it makes his stay there unbearable. These events make him feel depressed and angry, and a few times he continued to act out. For example, he took it upon himself to heal an emotionally distraught and comatose Magma and also had an affair with his teacher, Wolfsbane. These two instances showed that Josh has the tendency to not think logically when it comes to his dealings with other people, and he often lets his emotions influence his decisions.

During his time on Dani's New Mutants squad, we see that Josh can be outspoken with his peers when he wants to be as well. Numerous times he's criticized or told off David, Nori, or Sofia when things don't go the way he likes them to. Despite these people warming up to him when the Hellions squad wouldn't, Josh still felt a great deal of difficulty fitting in with them. There's a lot of fighting and petty jealousy going on within the squad, a great deal of which is perpetuated and at the fault of Josh himself. Clearly, he tends to be difficult to get along with at times.

M-Day and the Decimation were a huge and drastic change for Josh. He did not lose his powers, but many of the students at the Academy did and were subsequently murdered by William Stryker. This was only the first in a series of events that caused a complete emotional and mental lapse in Josh. The second came when his lover Laurie was assassinated by a sniper right in front of him, and Josh was so shocked and beside himself that he could not heal her in time and she died. Finally, the third event was Josh using his powers to kill for the first time as a form of retaliation against Stryker. From that point onward, Joshua was no longer outspoken, trying to be social, arrogant, or girl crazy. Instead, he began suffering from a great deal of depression and PTSD, was pretty socially awkward, and distanced himself from his teammates. He's there for them when they need him, but otherwise he's very closed off.

In addition to the mood issues, Josh has developed a great fear of being unable to help his friends and save them; so much death happened that he was unable to stop, and as a result, the idea of failure terrifies him. This is eventually part of the reason he ends up with X-Force. Josh was not on the team with an agenda to kill people, and basically ended up being used by Cyclops much like Laura had been. He was often seen hiding behind teammates on the battefield with a great deal of apprehension about hurting people (he even got in shit from Wolverine for healing the ninjas they were fighting at one point).

In canon, Josh has stuck with the withdrawn, awkward and apprehensive personality up until his last known appearance (X-Force #25). Since I will be taking him from after Necrosha, I will not emphasize much on the bad boy/golden boy personality from early on in Academy X since so much has happened since then. The darker characterization is also a better focal point for me as it differentiates from the other arrogant charmer type guys I have in the game.

And just so I'm not focusing on the negative stuff, I can definitely add in that Josh is still very helpful and loyal to his friends and teammates despite not acting very social. He wants to do what he can to prevent losing more loved ones. He also can't turn down attention (like when Loa offers to make out with him in order to get him to feel better, or when the cuckoos are all attempting to flirt with him at once). During his grieving, Josh also took up meditation and practicing Buddhism, and went all zen on everyone. Calm is better than turning black and killy, at least. Haha

History: Marvel Wikia

- Omega level mutant
- "Biokinesis." Basically Josh has the potential to control any sort of biological matter whatsoever. He can jumpstart mutant powers, secondary mutations, accelerate regeneration, regrow organs and body parts, create the onset of disease and tumours, destroy and kill biological matter with a touch, read DNA sequences and mutate them, and can actually manipulate a person's appearance if he wanted to (change eye colour, hair colour, etc).
- He has a secondary mutation that affects his skin colour. By default he is a shiny gold colour, but when he uses his bio powers for death or destruction, his skin turns a metallic black.
- He has multiple PhD level intellect in human anatomy and medicine. All of Henry McCoy's medical knowledge was downloaded into Josh's brain telepathically and he has instant recall to it.
- He's very athletic and skilled in sports.
- He loves his dang video games and rocks that shit.

- It takes a great deal of concentration to use his powers; the more complex the healing, the longer it takes him to do.
- If Josh uses too much energy on a person, the exertion can render him comatose.
- If Josh reverts to his black form, it is very difficult for him to change back to his gold form. At one point, it even took him days to snap out of it.

Preferred drop-in point: Manhattan please!

What are some of your plans for this character in their new environment?
I wanted to play a healer, for one. All of my other characters are much more in your face and use their powers offensively. Josh is more of a defensive character and is interesting to have around during physical conflicts, if only because it brings about interesting circumstances for the people he interacts with. Secondly, I did want to toss a character into Manhattan and build up some CR there since I am lacking game development in that location! Since Josh will be coming in post-Necrosha, I think it would be fun to explore the ramifications of that since canon has not dealt with him since and left him on a wide open note.

First Person Journal Sample:

Um...hello? I don't really know what's going on here, but this really doesn't look like Genosha anymore.

[A pause, and then Josh sounds a mix between defeated and trying to hide how nervous he is:]

If this is 'cause of the Purifiers again, I've had it. When do people get the sense to just leave you alone? I don't want anything to do with this, so if someone can tell me how to get back that...that would be good. Yeah.

And no more of that shower and prodding stuff because that was just weird.

Third Person Sample:
Here's about four sample threads that took place in the TPH January 2011 4th Wall event
